Zigzag

Devetry is excited to announce a new initiative in partnership with our parent company, DEPT®. We are officially a committed Climate Neutral Certified company!

What Is Climate Neutral?

Climate Neutral is an independent organization that measures and verifies a company’s greenhouse emissions. They then help you reduce and offset those emissions.  As a committed company, Devetry will:

  1. Measure: Annually, we will estimate and record our greenhouse gas emissions.
  2. Reduce: We then commit to a reduction action plan to cut future emissions within a 12-24 month timeline. We report progress on those plans annually.
  3. Offset: Anything we cannot reduce, we offset by making direct investments into critical carbon sequestration projects such as forest conservation, renewable energy, and carbon capture technologies.

Climate Neutral certification encourages consumers and businesses to choose products and services that offset and reduce greenhouse gas emissions. The hope is that consumers will prefer Climate Neutral companies and the trend will grow.

What Does “Committed” Mean?

Devetry is not Climate Neutral yet, but we are committed. This means that our agency has not yet been included in DEPT®’s global measurements, and therefore no offset for our emissions has been made.  As a DEPT® company, Devetry’s emissions will be taken into account when calculating the 2021 footprint. By 2022, we will officially be Climate Neutral!

How DEPT® and Devetry Are Reducing Greenhouse Gas Emissions

Buildings: DEPT® has 25 offices spread across the globe. Of these, two have become Green Building accredited in 2020, an achievement that is measured according to square footage. In 2021, we will choose additional offices, and lobby current landlords to get 30% of our office space green building accredited by the end of 2022. DEPT® is continuing to grow and it is all but inevitable that we will expand to even more offices. Even so, we will build on our short-term Green Building Accreditation goals to get 50% of our offices, including future ones, accredited by the end of 2025.

Travel: Reduce our travel emissions by 10% in 2021, 15% in 2022, and 20% in 2023. Initiatives in this plan will include subsidies to incentivize public transport for employees, a flexible work from home policy, facilitation of online communication for work with clients, use of carbon neutral-committed travel firms regardless of cost, and finally, mandating employees travel by electrified train routes when possible.

Hosting: Hosting our IT load and the digital platforms we build for our clients is one of the largest energy consumers of our business. To make sure we do this in the most environmentally friendly way, we started moving all our systems to the cloud. We started with this in the Netherlands a few years ago, and today we are rolling this out in all offices.  Already 50% of our own systems run on green hosting infrastructure, with a goal to reach 95% by the end of 2021. When it comes to hosting for our clients, we will always offer them the possibility of green hosting via Microsoft Azure. As a result, 70% of the hosting we do for our clients is green.
